Below are tips on what you can expect once basic training begins and what you can do to make your life easier:
-
Physical Illness
Because of the physical stress basic training, your immune system will take a beating and be less able to fight off illness. Simple tip—wash your hands often. Fewer germs mean less chance of getting sick.
-
Homesickness
We know you’re tough—but most recruits get homesick. You can write and receive letters, so write frequently. It will help you and your loved ones at home.
-
Stress & Drama
The training instructor will constantly yell at you, the camp will be crowded, and some recruits will drive you nuts. You must deal with it.
-
Group Showers
Recruits shower in one huge shower room with no dividers and absolutely no privacy. Furthermore, for the first few weeks you will get very little time to bathe—about two minutes a shower.
-
Lower Expectations for Privileges & Bonuses
That two hour pass you had been coveting all week could be gone at the whim of your training instructor. That extra bonus you were supposed to get after graduation—Be happy if you get half.
