Top-Up benefits reduce your available MGIB-AD benefits. Use this formula to figure out how much in MGIB-AD benefits you’d lose by using Top-Up:
JoeMath
amount of Top-Up you receive
÷ monthly MGIB-AD benefit amount you are eligible for
charge against your MGIB-AD
So if your monthly MGIB-AD benefit is $1,075, and you received $537.50 from Top-Up for a college course:
JoeMath
$537.50 (amount of Top-Up you received)
÷ $1,0754 (monthly MGIB-AD benefit you are eligible for)
1/2 month (charge against your MGIB-AD)
You lose 1/2 month of your MGIB-AD benefits. If you had your full 36 months of benefits available before using Top-Up, you’d now have 35 1/2 months available.
If you are eligible, VAJoe.com can help you find schools where you can use MGIB-AD Top-Up benefits.
