Dear VA Joe: Please accept the gratitude of this Canadian for all the many sacrifices that the Troops, and their families, make on a daily basis so that my little part of the world remains a safe place. Don’t ever say that you’re only doing your “job”. My thoughts and prayers are with you all, wherever you and your Units may be deployed. Here’s to the safe return to all you Warriors to the welcome you so rightly deserve. God Bless.
VAJoe, thank you for your kind invitation; however, at the present time I have placed ‘Old Soldier’ in mark time. I am trying desperately to finish building a new home. Acting as the general contractor and doing much of the work myself is very time consuming. I hope to have ‘Old Soldier’ back up and running after the holidays. Perhaps then would be a more appropriate time. Thank you for the invite, your service to our country, and your efforts with ‘VAJoe.com.’
Dear VAJoe,
My name is David Busch, founder of www.pillowsforsoldiers.com and I was just introduced to your blog. Wow! What a great source of information, shared stories and blessings for our soldiers! Thanks for making this available.
We are trying to get our name out to let people know what we do. We send some great and comfortable pillows to soldiers that individuals request at our web site. We are currently in the 501 C3 registration process, but we have managed to raise over $10,000 (at about and average donation of $60) since the 2nd week of August and have delivered over 320 pillows to soldiers across the USA. We send to all soldiers, past, present, active duty, retired, all branches of the military including, Coast Guard, National Guard and Reserve, and we are also honored to send pillows to the families of fallen soldiers in honor and in memory of those soldiers. And these are not just ordinary pillows. These are large and unique, high quality pillows shipped with pillow case inside a zippered plastic bag. We also add a personal note to each pillow bag, so the soldier (or the family of a soldier) receives our message of thanks and our offering of comfort.
100% of all direct donated funds go to the troops in the form of pillows. It is our small way to offer them some comfort, recognition and to say thank you for their service to our country. We will have a blog on our site soon, as soon as I understand how to operate it!
Please visit our site and I would be glad to exchange links with you. Since the 2nd week of August 2007, we have generated over 170,000 hits on our site with one very popular page at www.pillowsforsoldiers.com/soongone.html , a very fitting an honorable tribute to our WWII vets. The one thing that we wanted to do was to make our cause very personal and that is why we send one pillow to one soldier (hopefully millions of times) based on the requests of the American people and it is working. I just had a woman call me the other day and she told me that she saw her 90 year old WWII veteran neighbor receive his pillow. She told me he cried very hard and when he calmed down started talking about his days in Europe, things he had never shared with his neighbor before. He also said that he loved the pillow because it was something he received that honored his service “without having to ask for it”. This also brought back memories of the woman’s Dad he also served in WWII and she decided she wanted to get a pillow for him in his honor and his memory. Honestly, I did not realize when my wide and I started Pillows For Soldiers that I would receive this much personal gratification. I am so grateful I don’t know how to put it into words. I am just thankful that God put this idea into my head.
I am hearing these kinds of things all the time and it is very heart warming to say the least. Actually it is overwhelming and we just got started.
Pillows For Soldiers strives to be a Force For Good . . . forever. As long as there are U.S. Soldiers fighting and dying for our freedom and serving our country, Pillows For Soldiers will be there to thank them for their selfless sacrifices and dedication to the ideal they know and believe to be bigger than themselves . . . Liberty.
We honor them all from the bottom of our hearts at www.pillowsforsoldiers.com.
Thank you for the opportunity to post my message.
May God Bless You and all you do for the troops. Dave Busch, Founder Pillows For Soldiers
