Aunt Mar, this is a very touching story.....I now have the same desire to visit the memorial upon my next visit to our nation's capital. Just imagine that every single serviceman that is engraved on that wall has a similar story of a family member or friend making a visit to say "thank you". It must be truly touching to visit in person.

Mom, even though I read this once or twice before, it is such a nice tribute to not only this brave man Mr. Whitteker, but so many other brave souls who have served and protected our country and the freedoms that we have. Thank you for your great interest in all that you so lovingly write and talk about that has taught me well over the years. Love, your son, David Evan Martin.

Every time I read of someone's memories of one of our guys who gave his life in service of our country, it bring me to tears. I know, not very macho for a guy who has spent the last 18 years in uniform, but that the way I am. I cannot go to The Wall and keep my eyes dry. God Bless you for keeping his memory alive.
From someone who lives a bit down PA 611 from Easton.

To Crawfish- My thanks for your kind words. My purpose is to keep "Red" Whitteker's sacrifice to America and his memory alive. No matter that it's now forty years. Every Veteran and their beloved families deserve that for their good deeds. His second-seat, Lt. James Badley derserves that as well. I had no knowledge of Lt. Badley until I later went to The Virtual Wall. James's story is there. Thankfully, his sister got her questions about her brother's fateful day.
I read in our high school yearbook that all "Red" wanted to do was work on his car, graduate from Penn State, and fly fighter planes. He did that. . . My best, Marilyn
