One of the most offensive things I’ve ever seen

Rightwing News had the 40 most obnoxious quotes for 2007 recently posted.  Topping the list was probably the most offensive thing I’ve seen to veterans in my lifetime (note: I was born after “Hanoi Jane”). It’s a cartoon by Ted Rall which states that “Only idiots signed up; only idiots died. Back home, the average I.Q. soared!” implying that only morons sign up for the military in a time of war and that somehow benefits the gene pool.  You can view the vile tripe here.   Not only is this offensive, but it is highly inaccurate, since the young people I have worked with in the military are head and shoulders above the average 18-25 year olds who only care about updating their facebook profile and vomiting at parties on weekends.  While I believe that most of the American public remains highly supportive of the military, it is necessary to keep an eye out for those in pop culture who are out to sabotage us.  This will prevent our current generation of vets from being treated as poorly by American society as our brothers and sisters who served in Vietnam were.

My service dates were Dec 5th, 1965 thru Feb 5th, 69. The mentality then was about the same. I didn’t understand a lot
of what was going on in politics at the time. As time passed
and tensions grew it became clear to me and others that we had
“socialist pigs” living in our country and enjoying the freedom of speach that we idiot grunts provided for them. It isn’t much different now, they are still shooting off their mouth about things they know nothing about. Me and many of my friends in uniform were the targets of eggs and tomatoes at our nations airports, we just kept walking. Jesus said,”Forgive them Father for they know not what they do.”
How true that is even though it is very hurtful. WE, THE PEOPLE of the US Military are the drivers of the Chariots, we are the slayers of the vermin, we are the Life Line of freedom for all, no matter who they are. WE do not have the priveledge to pick and choose who we die for, who we loose
limbs for or who appreciates us or not. We do what honorable,
God Fearing, Flag Waving, Country loving individuals are called to do time and time again, we stand up, we take the flak and we take the bullets so that our children can carry on the American Traditions that other countries are envious of.
Let the cowards and the leftest whine and complain, all the while being envious of our strength and courage. God knows
who is Right and who is Left.

    Wfields,

Sorry that you had to endure such torment! I always looked upon the culture of the 60s which treated our Vietnam vets so poorly with disgust. Hopefully it doesn’t come to that in this day and age.

Wasn’t complaining, just making a comparison of the
LEFT then vs. the LEFT now. No change in people, just
    the date and time. wfields

Yep. I remember those day extremely well..having to grit my teeth and bite my tongure while wiping a glob of spit off my dress blues in a major airport is something I will never forget. It took more courage than I had ever had to find to keep from wiping the airport floor with the sumbitch.

The current bunch of America haters in country only reaffirms what I believed back then…there are a lot more horse’s asses in the USA than horses.

This generation has Ted Rall and William Arkin and Code Pink.

I lived through John Kerry and Jane Fonda and friends.

These are small people who know they have divine insight and intelligence over all things - unfortunately, their gifts are only in negative criticism - never contructive ideas - remdering them mean and useless.

PS - there are too many of us who remember and will not allow it to happen to you.
