Bereavement Counseling
Bereavement counseling offers assistance and support to survivors suffering from emotional and psychological stress after the death of a loved one. Bereavement counseling is offered by the VA free of charge to parents, spouses and children of servicemembers who died while serving their country. Family members of National Guardsmen or Reservists who died on active duty are also eligible.
Counseling is provided at community-based Veterans Centers located near the grieving family. Those interested in receiving support can contact the Readjustment Counseling Service at 202-273-9116. Their employees will help you located the nearest Veterans Center where counseling is offered, or you can use the online Veterans Center Facilities Locator & Directory.
