Veterans Health Programs
Readjustment Counseling
The more than 200 VET Centers across the country offer counseling and other outreach services to help servicemembers and their families readjust to life after combat. After combat, servicemembers may return to their bases or civilian life with symptoms of depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder. They may suddenly have problems with personal relationships or have trouble letting go of the combat mindset. The VET Centers offer the following services to help veterans cope with these and similar issues:
- Bereavement, individual, group, marital and family counseling
- Medical referrals
- Assistance in applying for VA benefits
- Employment counseling
- Alcohol and drug abuse assessments
-
Military sexual trauma counseling and referral services
Veterans who have served in eligible combat situations and who have received a military campaign ribbon are eligible for counseling services at VET Centers, as well as their family member.
You can find the nearest Vet Center online through the VA’s Facilities Locator & Directory or contact VET Centers toll free at 1-800-905-4675 (Eastern time) or 1-866-496-8838 (Pacific time).
