Veterans Health Programs
Programs for Female Veterans
The VA estimated that more than 7% of veterans in 2001 were female and that by 2010 the percentage will be 14%. In addition to the same health benefits that their male counterparts are eligible for, female veterans may also receive gynecological and obstetrical care, such as:
- Routine gynecological care
- Pap smears
- Evaluation and treatment for osteoporosis
- Menopause treatments
- Infertility treatments
- Mammograms
- Contraceptive services

Maternity benefits
Female veterans are also eligible for comprehensive mental health services geared to women:
- Sexual trauma counseling
- Substance abuse treatment
- Treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- Programs for homeless women veterans
- Counseling for domestic violence victims
