CHAMPVA does not maintain a list of approved health care providers; it allows members to choose their physicians. However, CHAMPVA maintains a list of approved types of providers that members can use.
Approved Providers
- Anesthetist
- Audiologist
- Certified midwife
- Certified nurse anesthetist (CRNA)
- Certified nurse practitioner
- Certified physician assistant (PA)
- Certified psychiatric nurse specialist
- Clinical Psychologist (PhD.)
- Dentist (when services are a covered benefit and preapproved)
- Family counselor or therapist
- Licensed clinical social worker (masters level)
- Licensed clinical speech therapist (LCSP)
- Licensed practical nurse (LPN)
- Licensed vocational nurse (LVN)
- Medical doctor (MD)
- Occupational therapist (OT)
- Osteopath (DO)
- Pastoral counselor
- Physical therapist (PT)
- Physician (medical doctor, MD)
- Podiatrist (DPM)
- Psychiatrist
- Physiologist

- Dental care
- Durable medical equipment with a purchase price or total rental price of $300 or more
- Hospice services
- Mental health and substance abuse services

- Superfluous services or supplies
- Health services you get for free
- Services by providers that have been sanctioned by a federal agency.
- Services provided by a member of your immediate family or household.
- Services and supplies that are part of a research or experimental program, or that do not follow accepted professional medical standards
